Seaweed aquaculture is so effective in reducing CO2 emissions, it outperforms trees, and its farming requires no land, freshwater or fertiliser. Being both sustainably and ethically produced, our natural seaweed ingredients create a harmonious relationship between local communities and global ecosystems. By growing seaweed, we can reoxygenate and deacidify the ocean, reversing effects of climate change and restoring nature’s balance.

Rich in micro and macronutrients, seaweed is the perfect ingredient to make biodegradable materials that improve soil health. By harnessing the power of our hero ingredient – seaweed – our materials drive carbon capture and enrich soil when composted. Searo® packaging material can be easily composted at home, in food waste bins. Our products biodegrade quickly and naturally, causing no harm to animals or ecosystems. Carbon sequestered by seaweed and locked in our material is released back into the earth as biomass, along with other nutrients. By fertilising the soil, our packaging supports the growth of more food, and the circle is complete.

Fighting Food Waste

Seaweed-based packaging that extends shelf life, reduces food waste and cuts carbon emissions

Searo® packaging materials utilise the properties of natural polymers to extend shelf-life. The ability of our materials to breath, allows fresh produce to stay fresher for longer, inhibiting condensation and mould growth. Tomatoes last longer packed in Searo material, and peas remain frost-free!

40% of the food produced is never eaten, 1/3 of global food production wasted. Plastic packaging is part of the problem, food-waste a symptom.
